POP-UP PROGRAMS
Facilitated by Laura Halsey Brown
I am an artist and a mental health professional. I have a Masters of Fine Art and am a certified Art Peer Support Specialist; having used art to work with clients at a Mental Health Center. I am a graduate of the UCLA Arts and Healing program, and have taken many trauma informed training courses, including receiving certification from the Association of Mental Health Coordinators. Before working at the intersection of art and mental health, I worked for 20+ years teaching Arts-based Social and Emotional Learning to youth – and am certified with the WA Public Education Board (OSPI).
I’m not a therapist.
Fall Workshops at Campfield.
A series of workshops designed to use art to deepen your relationship with nature.
Saturdays from 3 to 5. All ages
are welcome! Campfield is at 5411 Sandridge. More info here: https://snowpeakcampfield.com/events/
Saturday, Nov. 2 Illuminated Nature
Participants are invited to create a paper lantern that will amplify their connection to the natural landscape of Campfield. Using sticks found on the property of Campfield, participants will create a basic 3D structure. This will be covered with Japanese paper provided, as well as other found natural materials. A flashlight can then be placed inside to create an illuminated art work.
Saturday, Nov. 23 Sense of Place LAB
Participants are invited to create an art work to enhance their connection to Campfield, and the Peninsula. Participants will be able to use a variety of natural objects combined with art materials, to make a place-based artwork that can become a memento of their time at Campfield.
Saturday, Dec 14 Printing Nature
Participants are invited to expand their relationship to natural landscape of Campfield through printing natural materials. Participants will gather natural materials on-site to make either a print using a gelli plate or cyanotype (if there is sun). There will be a demonstration of cyanotype on clay using found nature, and other examples of this process.
Saturday, Dec 28 Abstracted Nature
Participants are invited to create an art work to heighten their relationship to the natural landscape of Campfield. In this interactive workshop, participants will each receive a prompt that will invite them to look closer at nature. The prompts will focus on seeing nature via art properties such as shape, color, line, texture. Based on their prompt, participants will take images via their smartphone. Then they will refer to their images (in close-up), to create abstracted nature using a variety of mixed-media.
